30 Minutes, 3 Days a Week

This example is for 30 minute intervention blocks, 3 days a week. The expectation is to complete 1 lesson (concept) per week. Teachers should assign additional practice if there is extra time available.

  • Use 2 sentences from Step 10 as encoding assessment. Record % of decodable words spelled correctly.
  • Have students do fluency drill in pairs. Model with words above the line. Have 1 student as reader, the other as listener. Set a timer for 1 minute. The reader reads words below the line from left-to-right, top-to-bottom. The listener puts a line through any skipped or incorrect word, and circles the last word read when timer goes off. Count the number of correct words & record as assessment.
